The Stag was the first part of a project to erect a sculpture at each entrance to the town. Heather Cumming of the Iron fairy was asked to provide a number of design options. The group finally picked a design which emphasised all the activities around Aberfeldy.
Planning permission took a long time due to the fact the statue was going to be situated in the ‘Birks’ but it was finally granted and work began with the Stag being installed in the autumn of 2009.
The sculpture was donated by Aberfeldy & District Rotary Club, the pathway leading to the stag was constructed free of charge by Aberfeldy Groundworks and the heather planting around the base completed by the group 2010. The lighting was added, at the Move2Improves’ expense in Autumn of the same year.
The planting around the Stag is now maintained by two of our supporters.
